October 30, 20008 //Bethesda, Md.//The Board of Directors of UNIFI Companies and Acacia Life Insurance Company announced the following officer elections effective November 1. These elections are a result of the retirement of Haluk Ariturk, FSA, chairman, president and CEO of Acacia Life, on October 31.

Barbara J. Krumsiek was elected director and chair of Acacia Life Insurance Company, a UNIFI company. In addition, she was elected director of UNIFI Mutual Holding Company and Ameritas Holding Company.

Krumsiek also serves as chair, president and CEO of Calvert Group, Ltd, a subsidiary of Acacia. She joined the company in 1997 as president, CEO and vice chair. Calvert is a diversified investment management firm and a known leader in sustainable and responsible investing (SRI).

She holds a master’s degree in mathematics from Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Phi Beta Kappa with honors, from Douglass College, Rutgers University.

Active in business and the community, Krumsiek is a board member of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Federal City Council, Pepco Holdings, Inc., Goodwill of Greater Washington and Trickle Up Program. She’s the past board chair of the Greater Washington Board of Trade. She received the CEO Leadership Award by Washington Business Journal, the LEDC Award by Latino Economic Development Corporation, and the Cafritz Foundation Founder’s Award for Leadership and Community Service. In 2007, Washington Magazine named Krumsiek among the “150 Most Influential People in Washington, D.C.” Washingtonian Magazine named her one of “Washington, D.C.’s 100 Most Powerful Women” and the Daily Record named her on of the “Top 100 Maryland Women” in 2006.

Salene Hitchcock-Gear was elected president and chief executive officer of Acacia Life Insurance Company. She also serves as president and chief executive office of Ameritas Investment Corp., an affiliate of UNIFI Companies. Ameritas Investment Corp. is a full-service broker dealer headquartered in Lincoln, Neb., with corporate offices in Bethesda, Md., Cincinnati, Ohio and Omaha, Neb. She also is chair and president of the Acacia Foundation and a director of Acacia Federal Savings Bank.

Hitchcock-Gear joined the broker dealer in 2000 as president and chief executive officer of The Advisors Group, formerly a subsidiary of Acacia, which later merged with Ameritas Investment Corp.

She is a member of the FINRA National Adjudicatory Council and is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Washington.

Hitchcock-Gear earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., and her juris doctorate from New York University School of Law, New York, N.Y.
