Innovative New Dental Products

Most people know they need to brush and floss their teeth daily for good health. However, these daily habits can get boring, so people may not always brush and floss as they should. One way to keep daily oral care interesting is to try something new. Review four types of new dental products that could enhance your time in front of the sink.

1. Toothpaste

Dental experts recommend using toothpaste when brushing to remove food particles and plaque and freshen your breath. Although there are many kinds of toothpaste on the market, there are several product options:

  • Toothpaste tabs – Due to the pandemic, many families are concerned about sharing the same tube of toothpaste. New toothpaste tablets solve this problem. Toothpaste tabs are easy to use: pop one in your mouth and chew it. As the tab starts to foam, brush your teeth like normal. There are different types of toothpaste tabs. Some contain fluoride to provide added protection for teeth against oral bacteria and decay. Other brands are made with natural peppermint, tea tree and coconut oils.
  • Natural fluoride toothpaste for kids – Kids will look forward to brushing their teeth if you make the daily habit fun. Look for natural fluoride toothpaste made for kids in different flavors, such as watermelon, apple or strawberry.
  • Whitening gel – Many adults use whitening toothpaste to make their teeth sparkle. Now whitening toothpaste comes in a gel formula with minimal ingredients. Make sure the whitening product you choose contains fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel. Note: New at-home whitening kits are designed to touch up whitened teeth. Some kits even have a rechargeable option.

2. Toothbrushes

There are many new styles of manual toothbrushes, from the traditional plastic handle with nylon bristles to new eco-friendly designs that create less waste. There also are different types of electric toothbrushes, each with various features. Some have a cordless option for ease of use. To help you choose, review the differences between a manual vs. an electric toothbrush. You also can ask your dentist for a recommendation. One of the challenges for parents and caregivers of children and teens is to keep them motivated to brush daily. There are several new fun brush designs. One of these is the u-shaped electric toothbrush. The brush fits over the gums and gently brushes their teeth. It features three vibration levels for different brushing sensitivity levels.

Most people think they do a good job of taking care of their oral health. After all, they usually brush their teeth once a day and often floss, too. If you’re interested in better oral health, review these tips for brushing your teeth

3. Floss

While 70% of Americans say they brush their teeth twice a day, only 33% of people floss daily and some never floss. However, dentists say that flossing is essential to keep teeth and gums healthy. Floss gets down between teeth where plaque hides; something brushing alone cannot do.

Dental floss comes in many new flavors and styles. One style is eco-friendly, an attractive option for people concerned about tossing traditional floss and containers in the trash. Another new design capturing people’s attention is candelilla waxed floss. Candelilla waxed floss is derived from a plant, not beeswax, and is unflavored. It’s a great option for people with tight spaces between their teeth.

Many dentists recommend using a water flosser as part of your daily brushing and flossing habits. A water flosser is designed to shoot water around and between teeth to loosen food particles and prevent plaque from forming. It’s an essential device for people wearing braces because the shooting water reaches food trapped behind the wires.

Water flossers come in various designs and feature different water pressure levels. Some models are cordless, making it easy to use the device at home or when traveling.

4. Mouthwash

Mouthwash is designed to kill harmful oral bacteria and freshen breath. New mouthwash products help treat a variety of oral needs, such as cavities, gingivitis, receding gums, bad breath, plaque, tooth sensitivity or whitening. However, make sure to choose mouthwash without alcohol, which can dry out oral tissues.
