Offering No-Load Variable Annuities

Variable annuities can be an integral part of a client’s long-term retirement planning strategies. They provide the benefit of tax-deferral, professionally managed investment options and a guaranteed death benefit. They can also provide guaranteed1 income for your client.

The performance of the investment options available in variable annuities is a critical element of the product.

Clients should always read the prospectus before investing in variable annuities to make sure they understand the risks and charges involved.

The Ameritas Advisor No-Load VA offers top features of variable annuities and eliminates sales loads and keeps other policy charges to a minimum.

Frequently asked questions

How does my client purchase an annuity?

The process is simple. After your client has reviewed the product and funds prospectuses, have them complete the application and all applicable disclosure forms which we will provide or are available on this site. If they’re transferring funds from an existing annuity, it’s not necessary to send money with the application, but the owner will need to enclose a completed 1035 Exchange/Transfer/Rollover form with the application.

Please contact our advisor solutions staff before your client submits an application to ensure that all the proper forms are completed, or if you prefer, we can partially complete the paperwork for their signature.

How long does it take to issue the new annuity?

Just two business days after we receive the check and completed application. It may take several weeks to process payments made by rolling over or exchanging another annuity, depending on how long it takes the other insurance company to execute the exchange or rollover.

How do I view my client's account values?

You’ll be able to view all of your client’s policies online once the contracts are issued and if the clients have completed the appropriate authorization form. If you have any questions, contact our salaried associates at 800‑255‑9678 for assistance.

Do I get an annuity statement?

Yes, automatically. Each calendar quarter a statement is mailed to you and your client. A summary annual statement is also delivered each contract year. You’ll also receive a confirmation statement anytime your client invests more money in their annuity or anytime a trade is made within the annuity.

What are the ticker symbols for the funds in the annuity? I’d like to follow the performance.

Since the investment options in the annuity are not mutual funds, there are no ticker symbols to follow. We provide daily investment option performance.

Can my client borrow from their annuity?

Instead of a loan, the owner can access part of the value of the annuity, free of charge, through partial withdrawals. Withdrawals are taxed as ordinary income and withdrawals prior to age 59½ may result in a 10% federal tax penalty.

IRAs have minimum required distributions. Do annuities have similar requirements?

If the annuity is part of an IRA, the same requirements apply. If the annuity is a nonqualified plan, no IRS distribution rules apply.

Can variable annuity policies be linked to a broker/dealer managed account?

Yes. The Ameritas Advisor No-Load Variable Annuity is designed to fit seamlessly into a managed account program.

Private Letter Ruling

In a Private Letter Ruling issued to Ameritas in 2021, the IRS ruled that certain advisory fees that the company deducts from a non-qualified policy and pays to an Investment Advisor (“Qualifying Withdrawals”) will not be treated as received by the policyowner and will not be reported as taxable income. Note that any fee amounts withdrawn that exceed an annual rate of 1.5% of the policy value during a calendar year will be reportable and taxable in the calendar year withdrawn. For additional details, refer to the respective variable annuity product prospectus to view the supplement.
